Expectations of Service

This page outlines expectations for how our volunteer network operates. We are a nonprofit volunteer coordination effort —
not a paid landscaping service. Availability varies by location and volunteer capacity.

Volunteer-based
No contracts
Respect & safety first

These Expectations of Service explain how the I Want To Mow Your Lawn ® volunteer network operates.
We prioritize clear, upfront communication so volunteers and community members can have a respectful and positive experience.

This framework reflects real-world experience coordinating over 15,000 community service requests through the I Want To Mow Your Lawn volunteer network.

Service expectations & limits

  • Volunteer-based help: Requests are fulfilled when a nearby volunteer is available — we cannot guarantee timing or repeat visits.
  • Not a replacement for professionals: In some cases a licensed landscaping contractor may be the best fit for ongoing needs.
  • Basic outdoor relief: We focus on reasonable yard work that can be completed safely during a volunteer visit.
  1. Volunteer-Based Services:

We operate primarily as a volunteer-based organization. While we do have a limited number of professional landscapers amongst our ranks,
the majority of our volunteers are not professionals in the field. Volunteers may have full-time jobs, family responsibilities, or other commitments.
The availability of our volunteers is dynamic and can change.

  2. Service Basis & Location:

We prioritize services based on a combination of factors including volunteer availability, recency of the request, and need.
Because of this, we may not always be able to provide ongoing or regularly scheduled lawn maintenance.

We attempt to match volunteers and service requests based on proximity. However, there may be situations where nearby volunteers are already at full capacity.
In these cases we may attempt to locate someone slightly outside the desired radius who is willing to assist.

  3. Request Confirmation & Service Guarantee:

When we confirm receipt of your request, please note that this does not guarantee service. Due to the volunteer nature of our organization,
we may not always be able to find a volunteer who is available to assist. We continue recruiting volunteers across the country and will reach out whenever possible.

  4. Respect and Communication:

If we are able to connect a volunteer with a service recipient, we ask that you respect the volunteer’s time and generosity.
If the volunteer initially connected with you is no longer available, please contact us directly and we will do our best to find someone else who may be able to assist.

  5. Patience and Understanding:

Submitting a request or leaving a voicemail does not guarantee service. However, we take every request seriously and do everything in our power to meet the needs of our community.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we coordinate a nationwide volunteer network.

Photos & impact tracking

When appropriate, volunteers may take before-and-after photos to document the impact of their work and to help raise awareness about the mission of our organization.
We aim to respect privacy and avoid sharing sensitive personal information.

Respect & safety

Volunteers donate their time and effort to help others. We ask homeowners and neighbors to treat volunteers with respect, provide safe access to the work area,
and understand that safety comes first. Volunteers may decline or stop work at any time if conditions feel unsafe.

While we strive to serve everyone who reaches out, it is important to understand that we may not always be able to provide ongoing or regular services.
We appreciate your understanding and are grateful for the opportunity to serve our communities whenever possible.

If you are seeking assistance, you can submit a request through our
request service form.
