Clearer job previews and smarter volunteer tools

Hard to judge a job to easier to arrive prepared

Volunteer Experience Implemented July 2026

What We Heard

A longtime volunteer sent us a detailed field report: it was hard to tell how big a job really was before claiming it, equipment details shared at signup were going unused, and coordinating a first visit took longer than it should.

What Improved

Job previews now show the level of effort, yard size and an estimated time, with a friendly nudge that a bigger job is a great one to bring a buddy for — and a heads-up when a riding mower may not fit through a gated yard. Equipment details volunteers shared at signup became suggestions each volunteer can confirm or edit before they are ever used. After claiming a job, volunteers can choose to see other nearby neighbors who could use help while they are out there — one tap to view or dismiss, never an obligation. Closure messages to neighbors are warmer and clearer about how volunteering works, and we now pay close attention to how quickly volunteers first respond — a number we intend to keep improving.

Why It Matters

Volunteers can pick the right job with confidence, bring the right equipment and the right friends, and neighbors get help sooner.
