Frequently Asked Questions

What tools and equipment do we need to bring?
Most groups bring their own mowers, trimmers, rakes, and leaf blowers. If your group doesn't have equipment, let us know when you create your Service Day — we can help coordinate with local volunteers or partners who do.
Is there really insurance coverage?
Yes. Every I Want To Mow Your Lawn volunteer is covered under our volunteer accident policy and our commercial general liability policy. Both policies are active, nationwide, and administered through our 501(c)(3). If your organization needs a Certificate of Insurance (COI), we can request one here.
How many homes can our group serve in one day?
That depends on group size and travel distance. A group of 10–15 people can typically serve 3–5 households in a half day. You set your maximum capacity when you create your Service Day — we won't over-match you.
Do we need prior experience with yard work?
No. Most tasks are straightforward — mowing, raking, trimming, and debris removal. These are everyday people helping everyday people. We match your group's capabilities to the right homes.
Can we get documentation for volunteer hours?
Yes. We provide volunteer hour verification letters on our 501(c)(3) letterhead for any participant who needs documentation for school, work, court, or military service records. Just let us know when you create your event or contact us afterward.
What happens if it rains?
You pick the date when you create your Service Day. If weather forces a postponement, you can reschedule through the platform. We'll notify the matched homeowners on your behalf.
Is there a cost?
No. This is a free service — for your group and for the homeowners. I Want To Mow Your Lawn is a 501(c)(3) public charity. We never charge homeowners and we never charge volunteers. If you'd like to support the mission, donations are always welcome but never required.
What area does this cover?
We operate nationwide. When you create your Service Day, you'll enter your service area and we'll match you with homeowner requests in that radius. Check our volunteer coverage map to see where volunteers are already active.
